Care Plans and Medicare Rebates for Psychological Services

At Altogether Psychology Services in Caloundra, we assist clients in accessing Mental Health Care Plans recommended by your GP. These care plans enable you to claim Medicare rebates for allied health services, including counselling with a registered psychologist or mental health social worker.

Under the Australian Government’s mental health initiative, you are entitled to receive six subsidised sessions per calendar year to access evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and other focused psychological strategies. If further support is needed beyond these six sessions, your doctor can extend the care plan for an additional four consultations.

The Medicare rebate for a standard session with a clinical psychologist like Katherine Mellor is $141.85. For counselling with our accredited mental health social worker and psychotherapist, Neil Mellor, the Medicare rebate is $85.20. We offer bulk billing options for clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan and a current Health Care Card.

Illness Policy for Safe and Supportive Therapy

At Altogether Psychology Services, your health and safety are our top priority. To protect vulnerable clients and our team, we kindly ask that you refrain from attending your appointment if you are feeling unwell.

If you experience symptoms of illness, please contact us to reschedule your session. Should you arrive visibly unwell, we may need to reschedule your appointment or offer a telephone session instead. This policy ensures a safe environment for all clients, particularly those who may be immunocompromised.

Pregnancy Support Counselling

We offer specialised counselling to support clients during pregnancy. To claim a Medicare rebate for pregnancy support counselling, you will need a referral letter from your GP.

Fees and Medicare Rebates

• Katherine Mellor (Clinical Psychologist): Standard consultations usually last one hour. EFTPOS is available. Medicare rebates of $141.85 apply with a valid Mental Health Care Plan.

• Neil Mellor (Mental Health Social Worker, Psychotherapist): Standard consultations are approximately one hour. EFTPOS available. Medicare rebates of $85.20 apply with a valid Care Plan.

 

Your consultation fee covers session preparation, note-taking, administrative work, and photocopying as needed. We can process your Medicare claim during your appointment when you provide a doctor’s referral.

Cancellation and Non-Attendance Policy

To respect your scheduled appointment time and offer sessions to other clients, we require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations without adequate notice may incur fees in accordance with Australian Psychological Society guidelines.

Offsite and Home Visits

For your convenience, off-site and home visits can be arranged with prior notice. We provide services across Caloundra, the Sunshine Coast, and the surrounding Hinterland areas.

Katherine Mellor and Neil Mellor are committed to upholding strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards. Information disclosed during sessions remains confidential and will not be shared without your informed consent.

Exceptions to confidentiality apply in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where disclosure is legally required. Any necessary disclosures will be discussed with you beforehand to maintain trust and transparency.
